Travel and Tourism at the University of Bedfordshire

I chose to study travel and tourism because I have always had an interest in learning and gaining knowledge about the travel sector.

The course structure is very well laid out and the unique stuff they have to offer is in a wide range within the travel and tourism industry.

They opened up doors for me and held the key to many of my job aspirations and my key skills I want to gain in this university.

What have you learned in your course so far?

In my course at the university of Bedfordshire I learnt many things, mainly combining my units, two units this year, introduction to the tourism industry and understanding the tourism industry. Both combined gave me good insights into how the tourism industry work.

During this course I was able to learn about a lot of things such as introduction to travel and tourism and tourism law. These units gave me a great insight of how the tourism and travel industry works and also I was able to gain a lot of skills such as communication skills and teamwork.

Do you think you’ve become more confident since the start of this course?

At the start of the course I think I wasn't as much confident as I am now and the reason for this is because I was able to work in teams for example and develop my confidence throughout doing task with them and they let me develop my leadership goals, for example it is something that helped boost my confidence as well.

What are your future aspirations and how is the University helping you to achieve them?

My future aspiration is to develop within the travel industry and also secure a job within the industry. The University of Bedfordshire has helped me with that by providing the opportunity, opportunity such as internships.

My future aspiration is to work in the travel industry and to major with a BA or a merit because I have a passion for it and I’d like to have the components to work in the travel industry and the university of Bedfordshire has helped me in this by helping me find part-time work in customer service.

My future aspiration is to secure a job in the travel and tourism industry specifically the airline industry and most things the university has done to help me with this is offering an opportunity to take on an internship within the airport and for me I think this is like a good starting point.

Why would you recommend this course to others?

I will recommend this course because of its structure, the way that lecturers teach you and what you’ve gained from the skills that you developed in the first year, which help you carry it out to the next year, which I did.

The university of Bedfordshire is a very welcoming place and it's full of opportunities.

The university of Bedfordshire is a great place to study and will provide you the essential skills you will need for your future career.

The University of Bedfordshire is a key to world dream aspirations.

Video Safiya

Hello my name is Sofia Shalo, I'm an undergraduate student studying travel and tourism at the university in Bedfordshire.

Where did you do your internship?

I did my internship at London Luton airport working as a passenger service assistant. The work required me to work with passengers before security checks.

How did you benefit from doing this internship?

This internship benefited me in many ways; it helped me develop essential employability skills such as communication skills, which I think was the key part of this work.

What advice do you have for students that are interested in doing an internship?

The university of Bedfordshire provides potential opportunities for students throughout their studies. The internship scheme is an excellent starting point for students who want to get involved in the field that they are interested in. The internship is going to be really flexible. Students can work around the timetable and fit in the internship whenever they want to.
